An important round wedding bowl resting on five legs with two poly-lobed handles forming butterflies, with movable rings, made of celadon nephrite carved in its center with two catfish facing each other, peony flowers and fruit branches and lingzhi, the border incised with ruyi. On the reverse side, five bats surrounding a longevity peach, the outer edge decorated with stylized shou (longevity) character flanked by two longevity peaches and two bats. Height: 7 cm - Diameter: 22.5 cm Diameter with handles: 28.5 cm Five-legged openwork wooden base with central decoration of prunus branches, the top carved with ruyi and bamboo leaves, the side openworked with prunus branches in ruyi medallions. 清乾隆 青玉雕雙魚紋蝶耳活環五足洗 The decoration here hides multiple wishes for happiness for a wedding: - the double fish (shuangyu): wishes of abundance - two catfish (nianyu) with a lingzhi (niannian ruyi): may your wishes come true year after year - fish with peony (fugui youyu): wishes of abundance of wealth and honor - five bats (wufu): that you receive the five blessings (old age, wealth, health, love of virtue, peaceful death) - two butterflies (hudie) facing each other (xi xiangfeng): happy meeting (symbol of marital happiness)
