DONI (Anton Francesco). I mondi del Doni. Venice, Francesco - Lot 18
DONI (Anton Francesco). I mondi del Doni. Venice, Francesco Marcolini, April 1552. In-4, 14 x 20 cm, [4] + 120 + [4] ff. (a4, A-Z4, AA-HH4), 19th-century binding in ivory half vellum with corners, spine ribbed. First edition of this curious work, in the image of its author, who was one of the founders of a literary academy in Venice, the Accademia dei Pellegrini. Each of the seven utopian worlds described has its own title in the name of this academy. A second part appeared the following year. A fine Venetian printing in italic type, illustrated with numerous woodcuts (of varying quality, some full-page), frames and 12 fine full-page portraits of humanist authors: the author, Giambattista Gelli, l'Arétin, Petrarch (?), Baldassare Castiglione, Francesco Sansovino, Gabriele Simeoni, printer Francesco Marcolini, Domenico Burchiello, Nicolas Machiavelli, Francesco Alunno and engineer Niccolo Tartaglia. Some portraits are identified in Italian ink by an early hand. Good condition. Ex-libris BB "Bonne foy bon droit" (19th century). Some old stains. Mortimer. Italian 16th Century Books in the Harvard College Library. 166 - EDIT16, CNCE 17693. Expert : Cédric et Ithier de FOUGEROLLE
