Jean Baptiste VAN MOUR (Valenciennes, 1671 – Constantinople, 1737) “Portrait of a Woman in Ottoman Dress” Oil on canvas 38 x 30 cm Provenance: - Private collection in southwestern France. Related work: - Our painting is related to plate 73 of the “Collection of One Hundred Engravings Depicting the Various Nations of the Levant, Drawn from Life in 1707 and 1708 by Order of M. de Ferriol " (published in 1714) entitled "Girl from Argentière / Island of the Archipelago." The figure is depicted in very similar attire and surroundings. A few accessories have been altered.
