FRENCH ECOLE, late 18th century - Lot 1
FRENCH ECOLE, late 18th century Military state of France on the footing of peace and war. Year 1787 Large pen-and-ink painting with watercolor and gold highlights, painted with the large coat of arms of Chrétien Guillaume de Lamoignon de Malesherbes (1721-1794), then a member of the King's Council. For each type of unit (Maison du Roi, Maison de Monsieur, Infanterie, Cavalerie, Etats Major des places), the table shows the names of the regiments, the distinctive uniforms, the names of the commanders and second-in-command, and a summary of the number of troops (300,000 in wartime). (Heavy foxing). 65 x 96 cm. Framed under glass. We would like to thank Mr. Alban Pérès, heraldic expert at the Poitiers Court of Appeal, for his help in identifying the coat of arms.
