JACK 1340 - Lot 23
JACK 1340 L'INDIENNE, DAYTONA, 2007 Signed, numbered on 10 copies in this format Manual silver print, baryta paper, Ilford. Solid oak frame Atelier Image Collée 60 x 50 cm Gift of the artist Jack 1340, a post-war child, was rocked by the sound of BSAs and Harley-Davidsons. Crazy about 50s American cinema and light, he conceived of photography in black and white only. Combining two passions to express his own universe was the choice he made 25 years ago. Since then, he's been criss-crossing the United States and the world of bikers, in search of that unique, authentic shot. Working against the grain of today's digital technologies, and with equipment that many now consider obsolete, he gives shape to his fantasies, inspired by mechanical beauty, to the point of sublimating them into never-before-seen works of art. His work, much appreciated on the other side of the Atlantic by the greatest artists of Custom Culture, is unlike any other visual motorcycle production.
