MARIE DE MÉDICIS, Queen of France (1575-1642). Fragment of a - Lot 14
MARIE DE MÉDICIS, Queen of France (1575-1642). Fragment of autograph letter signed, "A mon cousin le grand duc", Frédéric II de Médicis grand-duc de Toscane (1610-1670). Circa 1630. 1 page in-8 (25 x 17 cm). Brown ink on watermarked laid paper. Address in ink and two red wax seals bearing the arms of the Queen Mother, each encircling a small lock of hair, on the back. End of a letter from Marie de Médicis (12 lines), burned on three sides, with her signature, addressed to her nephew Frédéric II de Médicis Grand Duke of Tuscany, evoking Cardinal Bentivoglio (1577-1644), who was apostolic nuncio in France and favored Richelieu's influence with the queen mother (her son Louis XIII had reigned since 1610). A moving document, despite its gaps, with beautiful little wax seals of the Queen Mother and locks of her hair to authenticate the letter.
