Lit by the sun in Olympia on April 16, 2024, the flame then crossed the Mediterranean aboard the Belem, arriving in Marseille on May 8. From there, it travelled across France until the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on July 26, 2024. Passing through the hands of 10,000 torchbearers, it arrived in the hands of Marie-José Pérec and Teddy Riner, who together ignited the extraordinary hot-air balloon cauldron that symbolized the Olympic Truce for the duration of the Games.
