British-made officer's pistol for the Ottoman market. - Lot 161
British-made officer's pistol for the Ottoman market. Round barrel, with thunderbolt sides, fully engraved with trophies and foliage, a "LONDON" cartouche and proof marks. Lock engraved with a music trophy and the signature "RUNDELL BRIDGE & RUNDELL" and flat-bodied hammer. Fine chased brass fittings and thumbpiece, engraved and gilded with scrolls and trophies of arms. Cap with ears adorned with a crescent. Walnut butt and stock entirely decorated with wire inlays and cut and engraved silver leaf motifs (small chips and missing parts). Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Length: 42 cm A.B.E. (later walnut and dog screws). Circa 1810-1820. Rundell Bridge & Rundell was the most famous English silversmith firm, active between 1797 and 1843. It is likely that they were responsible for the silver trimmings and inlays on our pistol.
