Blanche Hoschedé-Monet, faithful to the Impressionist heritage, devoted a significant part of her work to landscapes. Her attachment to nature and light is evident in each of her compositions, particularly those in which flowers play a central role.
The tight framing of this composition, this corner of a garden, gives our painting an intimate character. With her very free brushstrokes, dense materials and a composition that occupies the entire space, the artist, by mastering the interplay of textures and colors, creates a harmonious dialogue between the blue cameos of the plumbagos, the greens of the trees in the background and the brighter shades of the roses in the foreground. Blanche Hoschedé-Monet's characteristically supple brushstrokes are accompanied here by a generous application of matter, bringing relief to this moment in life that we imagine to be a warm summer's day.
