Hokusai Katsuchika (1760-1849) Tatamisashi/ The tatami maker From the series Shokunin sanjûroku ban, Thirty-six craftsmen. Crouching in front of the tatami (quilted straw mat) he has assembled, a craftsman finishes by sewing the edges. Opposite him, a young boy is playing with his spinning top on the brand-new tatami.
