LA GUÉRINIÈRE (François Robichon de). École de cavalerie, contenant la connoissance, l'instruction, et la conservation du cheval. ÀParis, chez Huart et Moreau fils, Desaint et Saillant, Durand, Delormel, Pissot, 1751. Large folio, (8 of which the second blank)-318-(10)pp. in marbled brown calf, spine ribbed, cloisonné and fleuronné with brown title-piece, marbled edges; very worn binding with rebound and split jaws, corners restored (period binding). Partly original edition, expanded with a treatise on stud farms (pp.306-318). This great classic, originally published in 1731 in an in-16 edition without illustrations, was illustrated for the first time in 1733 in an in-folio edition. Superb copper-engraved illustrations, half after Charles Parrocel, by several artists including Laurent Cars and Jacques-Philippe LeBas. This reprint of the copperplates from the 1733 edition comprises 25 plates out of text (8 folded), including: a title-frontispiece, 3 double plates mounted on tabs, 21 single plates (including 6 large equestrian portraits). 4vignettes in the text: a coat-of-arms at the head of the dedication and 3 scenes.
