BAKST (Lev Samuilovitch Rosenberg, known as Leon). Original drawing. Costume for the character of Barbizon in Aladdin or the Wonderful Lamp. 26 x 11.8 cm on laid paper mounted on strong cardboard, watercolor graphite and gold paint; matted with small damage to details at the top of the drawing. Beautiful watercolor for this fairy operetta created at the Théâtre Marigny on May 20, 1919, on a libretto by Georges Gabriel Thenon dit Rip, music by Willy Redstone, choreography by Robert Quinault, and staging by Gabriel Signoret. Léon Bakst designed the sets and costumes. On the back, autograph certificate signed by his niece Berta Klyatchko (wife Tsipkevitch): I certify that this painting is indeed by the hand of Leon Bakst... Paris, 15-2-60...
