Bernard Franck (1848-1924) runs, with his father, the family firm founded in 1804 by his grandfather, a military equipment factory. Grandson of soldiers of the Empire, son of a collector, he became a collector himself and acquired objects related to military life, mainly under the Revolution and the Empire: weapons, insignia, portrait-miniatures, paintings, drawings, prints, books, especially collections of costumes. Then his interest extended to display objects.
Part of the collections that Bernard Franck had assembled were dispersed in some fifteen public sales, either anonymous or under his name, for which each object bears a label, in colour and gold on the back of the frames.
