Oval miniature on ivory, portrait of the Countess of Beauharnais, on a brown background in an oval gilt metal frame. Engraved with drypoint on the back of the frame: "Portrait of the Countess of Beauharnais" Early 19th century. (Restorations, old cracks restored). Frame: Height: 108 mm - Width: 90 mm Marie-Anne-Françoise Mouchard de Chaban (1737-1813), known as Fanny, who became Countess of Beauharnais, was a French woman of letters, she held a literary salon in the rue de Tournon and received Louis-Sébastien Mercier, Louis Laus de Boissy, Olympe de Gouges? A woman of the world, a feminist, she "fought throughout her literary life [...] to defend the status of women authors and to obtain the right of expression for all women".
