François-Nicolas Delaistre (1746-1832) Philoctetes... - Lot 104 - Beaussant Lefèvre & Associés
François-Nicolas Delaistre (1746-1832) Philoctetes in the island of Lemnos Terracotta statuette. About 1785. Height: 34 cm Pupil of Félix Lecomte and Nicolas Vassé, first prize in sculpture in 1772, boarder at the Academy in Rome, approved by the Academy in 1785, Delaistre, a brilliant and little-known sculptor, is nevertheless the author of important works: bas-reliefs adorning the dome of the Pantheon, the group of Love Psyche in the Louvre, numerous busts and statues preserved in Fontainebleau, Versailles, Besançon, Bordeaux, and works for several churches. He exhibited at the Salons from 1758 to 1824, notably in 1785 with Philoctetes on the island of Lemnos, complaining to the gods about the wound he had received from Hercules' arrows.
