Presumed portrait of Auguste Delâtre, charcoal, 55 x 40 cm. The etching is attached from the drawing, a beautiful proof bearing a signature that is difficult to read. Two-piece set. IMPORTANT SET OF ESTAMPS OF AUGUST and EUGÈNE DELÂTRE From the Quesneville family, this set includes many plates signed and dedicated to members of this family, Jules, Jeanne and Camille. Jeanne Delâtre, one of Eugene's sisters, married Jules Quesneville, a railway employee. They had a son, Camille (1901-1971), who trained with his uncle before taking over the family workshop after Eugene's death in 1938. Like Eugène, he was both a printer and an artist. He illustrated several works including The Song of the Sun by Saint Francis of Assisi in 1953. In 1956, on the advice of Edouard Goerg, he founded the association Pointe et burin, still active today, whose aim is to promote young talent. We thank Mr. Gérard Jouhet for his help in describing these prints.
