Important file concerning the military career of Marshal Joffre. His service record book opened in 1878, until his appointment as head of the 2nd army corps in 1908 as a major general. A set of about 80 printed and handwritten documents including the letters of service for his appointments, promotions and assignments on the letterhead of the Ministry of War, including: second lieutenant in 1871, lieutenant in 1872, retention in the 2nd Engineer Regiment in 1873, lieutenant 1st class in 1874, assignment to the 1st Engineer Regiment in 1874, captain in 1876, captain 1st class in 1881, placed at the disposal of Admiral Courbet in 1884, chief engineer of the Formosa detachment in 1885, authorization to go abroad to return from Indochina to France via America in 1888 (his first trip around the world), battalion commander in 1889, professor of fortification courses in 1891, placed at the disposal of the colonial administration for the railroads of Sudan in 1892, lieutenant-colonel in 1894 (capture of Timbuktu), secretary of the commission for the examination of inventions of interest to the land and sea armies in 1896, colonel in 1897, commanding officer of the 5th engineer regiment in 1899, brigadier general in 1901, commander of the 19th artillery brigade in Vincennes in 1902, Director of the Engineers in 1904, Major General in 1905, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division in 1906, Permanent Inspector of Military Schools in 1907, Commander of the 2nd Army Corps in Amiens in 1908, Member of the High Council of War in 1910, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1928, 1929 and 1930. Various documents concerning: Tonkin, order of division 70 citing the action of Captain Joffre who "directed the works of the siege with an intelligence and a coolness worthy of the greatest praise", a booklet of Captain Joffre "on the types of barracks to be adopted for Tonkin" Berger-Levrault, Paris 1889; Africa and the taking of Timbuktu of which the telegraphic dispatch of February 27, 1894 "government addresses congratulations to commander Joffre for the conduct of his column, to the officers and the troops under his orders for their beautiful march". "Madagascar about Diégo-Suarez, general order n° 350 of 1797; various documents of the commission of inventions; a handwritten and typed draft of his service records with details of employment until 1911 and the technical service sheet for the general inspection of the engineer of 1896 and his service records established on November 28, 1918.
