Chawan (bol à thé) de forme naka tsutsu, cabossée, en grès brun clair et brun foncé taché de vert et de pourpre au bord, à décor de chevaux dansant et motifs de corde. Cachet Soma imprimé au revers de la base. A SOMA CHAWAN [TEA BOWL] SEALED SOMA, EDO PERIOD, 19th CENTURY Of irregular indented form with rounded rim and applied with a prancing horse and a rope and post in a variegated mottled pale and dark brown glazes and a splashed green and purple glaze on the rim, the pinched and spatula marked foot with impressed gourd seal and spiral. La poterie de Soma ou Obori Soma est un type de poterie née pendant l'ère Genroku (1688-1704) à Fukushima. À partir des années 1930, le motif du cheval galopant s'est répandu. Il provient du blason du seigneur féodal Soma et se réfère également aux rituels traditionnels consistant à capturer un cheval. En 1987, la poterie de Soma a été désignée artisanat traditionnel japonais. Elle a été produite à Obori Namie depuis plus de 300 ans, jusqu'au tremblement de terre et au tsunami qui ont frappé la province le 11 mars 2011. Le four a alors été détruit, mais les potiers continuent malgré tout à fabriquer des poteries Soma dans la zone d'évacuation. Un exemple similaire est conservé dans les collections du British Museum, n° Franks. 1200. Soma ware or Obori Soma ware was established during the Genroku era (1688-1704) in Fukushima. From around 1830, they started to use the motif of the galloping horse that was taken from the family crest of the feudal lord Soma and also refers to the area's traditional shrine rituals of chasing horses.
