AMPHORA WITH BLACK FIGURE COLUMN whose ovoid body is painted on the face A of a young rider between two bearded spectators, standing, dressed in a himation. The face B is decorated with two panthers facing each other. The collar is decorated on each side with a profile of a bearded man between zig-zags. The details are rendered with fine incisions and highlights of red and white paint. The quality of this vase is remarkable. Orange clay, black glaze and red and white paint highlights. Irisation of the glaze. Greek art, Attica, Louvre painter F6 (follower of Lydos with Vatican painter 309), circa 540-530 BC. (Stoppage at one handle, otherwise intact).
