On the back, a handwritten indication "Fait l'an 1824-1825 Gd père Corot par son fils Camille" and a label "Mr Jacques Truelle Hotel Shoreham".
(Stains and discolorations around the edges).

Mr. Jacques Truelle, great-uncle of the sellers, was a diplomat, minister and friend of Ambroise Vollard
Our portrait represents Mr. Sennegon in left profile reading. He was Camille Corot's correspondent in Rouen: "He was a man of dreamy mood, a little melancholic, who shunned the world but tasted nature" (see: work cited above, p.21)
The son of Monsieur Sennegon became Corot's son-in-law. He painted portraits of the entire Sennegon family in the 1830s (see: work cited above, volume II, fig.246 to 254, repr)
