Round miniature on ivory, young girl dressed in a blue dress, signed on the right Hesse in a wooden frame. Early 19th century. Diameter of the miniature about: 45 mm Frame: Height: 125 mm - Width: 110 mm Provenance: Sale Wednesday, May 20, 1953, Paris, Hôtel Drouot, Me Étienne Libert, n° 68. Henri-Joseph Hesse (1781-1849) painter, watercolorist, miniaturist, entered the School of the Academy in 1795 and followed the courses of Jacques-Louis David and Jean-Baptiste Isabey. He stayed in Germany (1815), made a name for himself as a miniaturist during the Empire, then during the Restoration by painting portraits of the great figures of Parisian political and cultural life (Talleyrand, Madame de Staël, the Duchess of Berry). He participated in the Salons between 1808 and 1833.
