History of King Henry the Great. Paris, from the Goetschy printing works, 1821. Grand in-12, 286 [figures i to xii and 13 to 286]-(2 of which the last one white) pp., green morocco, decorated ribbed spine, plates decorated with a gilt frame of frieze with palmettes between two with corner finials and gilt coat of arms in the centre, ornate cups, gilt inner wheel, gilt edges; freckles (Simier r. du roi).
Portrait-frontispiece engraved on copper by Pierre-Charles Coqueret, without text. Included in the pagination, the facsimile of an autograph letter signed by Henri IV.
WRITTEN OPENING WRITTEN FOR THE INSTRUCTION OF LOUIS XIV, of which the author was the tutor, and originally published in 1661. Hardouin de Péréfixe de Beaumont was Bishop of Rodez and then Archbishop of Paris in 1662. He entered the French Academy in 1654.
EXAMPLE RELATED IN MAROQUIN TO THE WEAPONS OF THE Duchess of Angoulême (OHR, pl. 2553, iron no. 2). Daughter of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette of Austria, Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte of France (1778-1851) received a careful education and lived a happy and pampered childhood, but was hit hard by the revolutionary turmoil which nevertheless spared her life: she made the unfortunate trip to Varennes and then, a few days after the insurrectionary day of June 20, 1792, was locked up in the Temple prison from which she could not leave until December 1795. Her release, obtained following negotiations between France and Austria, was in exchange for the release of six French prisoners: four conventionals, General de Beurnonville, the ambassadors Semonville and Maret (future Duke of Bassano) and the postmaster of Varennes. The young woman then left for Vienna and joined the royal family at Mittau in Russian territory, where she was married in June 1799 to her cousin the Duke of Angouleme, son of the Count of Artois.
