COLLECTION RENÉ BASCHET
Set of about 3440 letters and coins. Years 1900- 1930s, mainly. The whole mounted on strong paper sheets themselves mounted on tabs in 3 volumes strong in-plano of green grief with smooth backs, some epiderminations and snags.
The press man René Baschet (1860-1949) was the son of Ludovic Baschet (1834-1909) who was the director of
La Galerie contemporaine, La Librairie d'art, and La Revue illustrée (1885-1909). He continued on his father's path, launched the magazine Le Panorama in 1895, managed for a time Les Annales Politiques et Littéraires, and above all directed the newspaper L'Illustration (1904-1944) for forty years.
The letters and pieces of the present collection are classified materially in the volumes without distinction of subject, in two complete alphabetical series, one constituting the first volume, the other occupying volumes II and III, but several names appearing in both series. The presentation below is divided according to the fields illustrated by the persons concerned: literary figures, artists, musicians, etc.
