One dollar, red. Unique work - Folding in screen-printed aluminium. Signed and dated 2020. Unique piece. Height: 49 cm - Width: 21 cm. Karl LAGASSE is a French artist, born on 4 April 1981 in Paris. He is notably the creator of the sculpture One Dollar and the trophy of the Deauville American Film Festival. Following in the footsteps of Cartier, he has been making this trophy for several years and one of its copies will be presented in September 2020 to Michael Douglas in tribute to his father's career. Very early aware of art, at the age of 7 he met the famous sculptor CESAR who encouraged him to create. At sixteen, he sold his first work in Antwerp. In 2003, he exhibits in Paris where he presents works mixing collages and paintings, as suggested by Yvaral, Victor VASARELY's son. Karl LAGASSE started sculpting in 2004 and found inspiration by viewing Les Nuits Blanches by Luchino VISCONTI. He began to create the series of Buildings, totem works composed of different materials. In 2006, the Brussels gallery Isy BRACHOT devoted an exhibition to him which attracted buyers for almost all the works presented. In 2008, Karl LAGASSE exhibited his paintings, sculptures and photographs at the Espace Pierre CARDIN. 2009 is the year of creation of one of the artist's most emblematic works, the One Dollar. In 2010, he was chosen to represent the city of Deauville at the Horsemania World Equestrian Championship held in Lexington in the United States, for which he created a sculpture. After the One Dollar, which became an international success, he presents the Cryptogram One at the Art Monaco exhibition in 2011. To celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival in 2012, he creates a building measuring 2.80 m by 60 cm wide in cement, wood, glass and photos in collaboration with CORBIS and exhibits it at the Carlton Cinema Club.
