UNE PROPRIÉTÉ AU BORD DU LAC - Second day of auction (Lots no. 292 to 579)
Furniture and objets d'art from the Château de Nernier
BEAUSSANT LEFÈVRE & Associés chose the European Heritage Days to exhibit and auction the entire furniture of the Château de Nernier (Haute-Savoie). This house sale brings together everything that makes a great residence handed down from generation to generation. Located on the French side of Lake Geneva, the Château de Nernier has sheltered, hosted and welcomed the great names of politics, thought, the arts and literature, not to mention finance, over the last few centuries. The château's occupants - including the current owner's father, who was a French ambassador - accumulated a wealth of memorabilia and objects, which have been used by heads of state and sovereigns such as the Queen Mother of England and President Chirac.
The objects also have a history; pieces of silverware, porcelain services and household linen bear the coat of arms and motto "Re Que Diou" ("Nothing but God") of the Talleyrand-Périgord family, whose most illustrious member, Charles-Maurice, is related to the current owner. Most of the works in the magnificent library are bound with the arms of the Counts of Antioch, the ancient Savoyard and Piedmontese family who once owned the estate. Many of the furnishings are of rare quality, while the lots coming out of the attic include finds worthy of fine homes.
